Yan Shilin, China

Yan Shilin's kids are the children with somewhat twisted bodies, but with the heart of adults. Yan didn't explain the concrete scene for them. They just stand there, lonely and pitiful, as if they are in some unknown corner of the world; as if they are already abandoned before even start their life. We can't see any grownups that take care of them. They live totally on their own. Nonetheless, they are surrounded by formless power. The power can be an unexpected big hand, which tight up with them, like it was born with them; the power can be a focus point, draws their attention without a proper reason. Yan implicitly shows us many kinds of possibility we may meet in the adult's world, and materialized those formless barriers for the viewers.
