Abelardo Hernandez Alfonso
All Aberlardo Hernandez Alfonso’s works are connected by the technics the artist use and keep developing year after years. Volumes and colors are adapted to the theme of each artwork; materials are worked following a “low relief” method. The artist describes his work as a “tri-dimensional collages” built initially from a flat drawing. The first drawing is fragmented to create volumes with small spaces of lights and shadows. Superposing several layers of cardboards and papers from all around the world, the artist creates a depth effect that spectators will discover while changing point of view. Lighting will also create shadows accentuating the visual impact.
The main message of Abelardo Hernandez Alfonso is freedom and curiosity for everything around us. The artist will create a cultural aesthetic mix offering everything he perceives beautiful.
His work involves formal and conceptual references from different graphic and art medias as sculpture, ceramics, mural painting, patchwork and drawing. He uses all that graphic resources to create volumes, apply a tattoo covering the surface of bodies and carry a message. The themes are various but always inspired by characters from different cultures and folklores. This source of inspiration is a pretext to explore a variety of shapes and colors to provide a personal plastic proposal and point of view.
Abelardo describes himself has someone permanently looking for evolution and seeking new materials and technics. That need of learning from the world and everything around him helps him to develop continuously innovative artworks.
